The City and County of Denver, Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an Unpaid Intern to assist with the Mile High Million's "Million Tree Initiative Program."

During the 2006 annual State of the City address, Mayor John Hickenlooper announced an ambitious tree planting program with a goal of adding one million new trees in metropolitan Denver by the year 2025. The initiative aims to engage and motivate individuals to become life-long stewards of our natural environment through planting and caring for trees. The end result will be a healthier and more extensive urban forest, creating more inviting places to live, work and play.

Job Responsibilities:
• Assist with data management for the ARRA funded Trees for Energy Savings project. This includes basic database work and map building.
• Create content for milehighmillion.org.
• Create content for the initiative's social media sites.
• Conduct tree mortality inspections and generate reports.
• Assist with the Regional Urban Heat Island and Canopy Cover Assessment.
• Work with volunteers on tree planting projects in the field. This includes physical labor.
• Assist with the implementation of a fundraising event.

Qualifications:

Education: Completion of six (6) credit hours of college and current enrollment in a college program leading to a Baccalaureate or higher Degree in professional field specific to the departmental and/or work assignment. Enrollment must be in a learning institute that is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission.

Continued enrollment in a college program is condition of employment with the City.

Experience: None

It is desired that a candidate be in a program focused on but not limited to one of the disciplines below:
• Urban Forestry
• Horticulture
• Forestry
• Planning
• Landscape Architecture
• GIS
• Marketing

It is desired that the candidate be available for at least 15 hours a week for at least 6 continuous months.
