DENVER DIGS TREES SPRING STREET TREE APPLICATIONS DUE FEB. 15
Monday, February 7
With the holidays just wrapping up and the ski season in full swing, it may seem odd to think about the planting season. However, spring will be here soon, and The Park People is busy preparing for the 2011 Denver Digs Trees' distribution. Applications for free and reduced cost street trees must be in by Feb. 15, 2011, and trees will be distributed on April 16. The Park People are celebrating their 20th year of the Denver Digs Trees program and have added more than 41,000 trees to Denver's skyline over the years.
Street trees are just $25, or free to those living in one of the 24 target neighborhoods that face particularly low canopy cover. Those neighborhoods include: Athmar Park, Baker, Barnum, Barnum West, Chaffee Park, Clayton, Cole, Elyria-Swansea, Five Points, Globeville, Green Valley Ranch, Jefferson Park, Lincoln Park, Montbello, Northeast Park Hill, Ruby Hill, Skyland, Sunnyside, Sun Valley, Valverde, Villa Park, West Colfax, Westwood, and Whittier.
The trees received through this program must be planted in the public right of way, typically the space between the sidewalk and the street. Available varieties include:
English Oak, Bloodgood London Planetree, Shademaster Honeylocust, Triumph Elm, State Street Maple, Cleveland Select Flowering Pear, Hot Wings Tatarian Maple and Robinson Crabapple.
Additional tree varieties will be available for sale on distribution day.
