2nd annual ‘Trash to Trees’ tree decorating competition

Sunday, December 13

The Inverness Hotel - 200 Inverness Drive West, Englewood

The Inverness Hotel and Tagawa Gardens, in partnership with The Mile High Million and Radio Disney, will host the 2nd annual 'Trash to Trees' tree decorating competition that will be on display Dec. 5-13 at the hotel in Englewood

The Trash to Trees Program challenged local students to use recycled or re-purposed items only to decorate a tree and 37 schools accepted the challenge. The community is invited to stop by Dec. 5-13 and vote for their favorite tree.

"Trash to Trees focuses on raising awareness about the importance of recycling and making eco-friendly choices during the holiday season," said George Fischer, managing director at The Inverness Hotel. "It is estimated that Americans generate one million tons of additional waste per week during the holidays. While we realize we can't change old habits overnight, we can help to increase knowledge about this issue among today's youth and hopefully inspire future change through this fun and educational program."

Ten schools competing in the Trash to Tree competition will earn cash prizes for their trashy creativity and the remaining schools will be entered into a drawing to win prizes from sponsors. Each tree will also be on sale to the highest bidder with 100 percent of those proceeds going directly to the school.
